The Curriculum of Life
Welcome to The Village Schoolhouse. We are a homeschool village created to bring back the joy of learning. A place where children are free to grow at their own pace and develop life skills that will carry them far beyond childhood.
We call it The Curriculum of Life™ — an approach that sees learning not as something confined to four walls or textbooks, but as something alive in the world around us. We educate through purposeful experiences, teaching real-life skills that children carry with them far beyond childhood. Through hands-on exploration, rich literature, meaningful conversation, time in nature, and intentional skill-building, students discover that learning isn’t a task to complete — it’s a lifelong journey to embrace.
We are reclaiming the joy of learning for our children and the generations to come.

A Full Homeschool Day at The Village Schoolhouse
Beginning Spring 2027, The Village Schoolhouse will offer a 9:00 AM–2:00 PM homeschool program for ages 5+, designed to give families more academic support while still protecting the flexibility, freedom + wonder that makes homeschooling so special.
Our days won't be divided into "academics" and "enrichment." Instead, learning will be woven throughout the entire day. Students will move through intentional time of content, reading, writing, projects, nature, life skills, movement + independent work, with plenty of flow and flexibility built in.
Curriculum of Life™ + Academics are Woven Together
Our Curriculum of Life™ remains at the heart of the Schoolhouse. Students will explore history, science, nature, geography, culture, life skills + big ideas through conversation, living books, projects, hands-on experiences and real-world learning.But now, the academic skills they need will be intentionally woven into that learning throughout their day.
A history lesson leads into reading a book and notebooking what they discovered. A science question turns into research, note-taking + writing. A nature study includes vocabulary, observation, measurement + recording data. A project requires students to read instructions, organize information, write, calculate, problem-solve + present what they've learned. But these higher levels of understanding only happen after reading is established and that is why we have now woven it into our day.
Instead of separating academics from the things our students are curious about, we want to teach them how to use those academic skills to explore their world.
For our emerging readers, reading comes first. Students will receive intentional instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, reading, handwriting, writing + language arts, differentiated based on where they are academically. These foundational skills will have dedicated instructional time while also being practiced naturally throughout the rest of their Schoolhouse day.
As students become stronger readers, we'll begin teaching them how to use those skills to find information, take notes, organize their thoughts, ask better questions, research ideas + communicate what they've learned.
And as students become confident, independent readers, we'll continue building on that foundation and begin incorporating more math into their individual academic work and real-world projects. Our goal isn't to rush every child through the same sequence at the same time. It's to meet them where they are, build the foundation they need + then give them opportunities to actually use those skills for something meaningful.
We want our kiddos asking questions, getting their hands dirty, reading books, writing things down, researching ideas, building projects, solving problems + discovering that learning isn't something that simply happens to them.
It's something they know how to do for themselves. That's the kind of learner we're working to build at The Village Schoolhouse.

What About Math?
For students who are still working toward independent reading, their primary math curriculum will continue to be completed at home with their families.
We believe becoming a confident reader is one of the most important foundations we can give a young learner, so reading will come first. While math concepts will naturally be woven into projects, content + real-life learning throughout the Schoolhouse day, we won't replace a student's at-home math curriculum until they have developed a strong reading foundation.
Once a student is reading confidently and independently, we'll begin incorporating more intentional math into their individual Schoolhouse work.
As students grow, so will their academics — beginning with strong foundations in reading + language arts and eventually expanding to include reading, writing, research, notebooking + math throughout their day.
For students who need additional math support now, private math tutoring is also available through TVS and can be tailored to each child's individual needs.
Ages 5+
Our full homeschool day is designed for students ages 5/6 and up, with learning differentiated based on age, readiness + ability.
Students aren't expected to all be working at the same level. Our goal is to understand where each child is, challenge them appropriately + give them the tools to continue progressing.
Homeschooling — With a Village
We aren't trying to recreate traditional school inside the Schoolhouse.
We're building something that supports the way our families have chosen to educate their children.
A place where kids can experience rich academics, nature, projects, conversation, community + real life.. while families still have the freedom to homeschool in the way that works best for them.
