At The Village Schoolhouse, children are given space to grow at their own pace while developing curiosity, confidence, independence + a genuine love of learning. Our 9:00 AM–2:00 PM homeschool program blends strong academics with rich literature, nature, hands-on discovery, meaningful work + real-world experiences, with each stage intentionally designed to meet students where they are.

Rather than separating "academics" from everything else, reading, writing, research, math + communication are intentionally woven throughout the day alongside dedicated instruction and content blocks.

The Littles | Ages 5–9

Our Littles learn through wonder, movement, conversation + hands-on discovery while building the academic foundations they need to become increasingly independent learners.

Through our Curriculum of Life™, students explore history, science, nature, geography, culture, arts, life skills + big ideas through living books, conversation, projects, hands-on experiences and real-world learning. Throughout the day, students also receive intentional instruction in phonics, reading, handwriting, writing + language arts, differentiated based on their individual readiness.For our emerging readers, reading comes first. As students become stronger readers, we teach them how to use those skills to find information, take notes, organize their thoughts, ask better questions, research their curiosities + communicate what they've learned.

Math concepts are naturally incorporated into projects and real-world learning, while families continue their primary math curriculum at home until their student has developed a strong reading foundation. As students become confident, independent readers, more intentional math instruction is incorporated into their Schoolhouse work.

5-year-olds may be considered for our Littles program following an initial interview to ensure the Schoolhouse environment + full 9:00 AM–2:00 PM day are a good fit for their individual needs.

The Bigs | Ages 10+

Our Bigs move into deeper academics, greater independence, leadership + real-world application.

Their days continue to be grounded in our Curriculum of Life™, but the way they engage with the content grows with them. Students explore history, science, nature, geography, culture + real-world issues through literature, discussion, research, projects + experiences that challenge them to think beyond memorizing information.

Literature + Language Arts become a larger part of their learning. Students read and discuss meaningful books, strengthen their writing, practice notebooking + note-taking, build vocabulary, research topics, present their ideas and learn how to communicate what they think — and why.

Through discussion + debate, students learn to listen to different perspectives, ask thoughtful questions, build an argument, support their ideas with evidence + respectfully challenge one another.

Math is incorporated more intentionally into the Bigs' academic work, with instruction and independent practice based on each student's current level. Whenever possible, we also connect math to real-world applications, projects, entrepreneurship + problem-solving.

As our Bigs grow, we want them taking greater ownership of their education.. learning how to manage their work, pursue their interests, research independently, collaborate with others + turn big ideas into something real.

Across both programs, our goal isn't to move every child through the exact same material at the exact same pace.

It's to know our students, build strong foundations, challenge them appropriately + give them the tools to become curious, capable + independent learners.

Private Tutoring: While our extended-day program gives Littles additional academic support, families remain an important part of their child's homeschool education. For students who need more individualized help, private reading + math tutoring is available through TVS. Our tutor can provide 1:1 instruction, help families navigate curriculum + create additional support based on each child's individual needs. Pricing is based on the level of support needed and is currently available only to TVS families.

Learning at The Schoolhouse

Each semester unfolds through cyclical thematic units that allow students to explore ideas across subjects rather than learning everything in isolation. Literature, history, science, nature, art, practical skills, and project-based learning naturally weave together.

As students grow, so does the depth and responsibility of their work. Younger students learn largely through stories, exploration, hands-on discovery + creating. Older students move toward discussion, research, skill-building, leadership, and increasingly complex real-world projects.

Throughout the semester, students work on both individual projects and collaborative group efforts, learning how to ask questions, solve problems, create, communicate, and contribute to their community.

Our extended Littles day adds another layer to this progression. We begin by helping students build the foundational reading + language skills they need to become more independent learners. As those skills develop, their academic work expands with them, moving toward research, notebooking, writing, mathematics + increasingly independent learning.

At the end of each semester, families gather for Student Exhibitions, where our children have the opportunity to proudly share the work, ideas, discoveries, and skills they have developed along the way.
