Building The Foundation
The Village Schoolhouse Magnolia is a homeschool program for families in Magnolia, TX. We meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, offering a multi-age learning environment where children explore subjects through hands-on projects, nature play, and real-life discovery.
Our model is designed to support homeschool families by lightening the weekly load while keeping parents fully in charge of their child’s education. Through our Curriculum of Life™ approach, students engage in rich literature, meaningful discussion, Spanish immersion, collaborative projects, and practical life skill development all within a close-knit, relationship-centered community.
As students grow, their learning evolves. Our Bigs program shifts toward real-world skills and responsibility, where students spend time developing leadership, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, and practical skills such as gardening, animal stewardship, and project-based problem solving. Community mentors and local leaders also join us throughout the year to share their experience and pour into the next generation.
At The Village Schoolhouse, we focus not only on academics, but on cultivating character, confidence, curiosity, and wonder — qualities that will carry children far beyond the classroom.
At The Village Schoolhouse, children are given space to grow at their own pace while developing curiosity, confidence, independence, and a genuine love of learning. Our days blend rich literature, nature, hands-on discovery, meaningful work, and real-world experiences, with each stage intentionally designed to meet children where they are.
The Littles (ages 5*–9) build foundational skills through nature exploration, rich stories, creative projects, and hands-on discovery. Their days are filled with imagination, and collaborative learning designed to deepen curiosity and help children see learning as something exciting and connected to the world around them. 5 year olds may be considered for our Littles program following an initial assessment to ensure the Schoolhouse environment and program are a good fit for their individual needs.
The Bigs (ages 10+) move into deeper thinking, greater independence, leadership, and real-world application. Students collaborate, debate ideas, develop practical skills, and take ownership of meaningful projects connected to entrepreneurship, stewardship of the land, problem-solving, and the world around them.
Math and Reading Private + Group Tutoring: Our families complete their math and reading at home on their own time but we have several families who would like extra help or a hand to get started and this is where our tutor comes in. She can help walk you through curriculum or help guide you in the right direction. Pricing is based on needs and available only to TVS students at this time.
Learning at The Schoolhouse
Each semester unfolds through cyclical thematic units that allow students to explore ideas across subjects rather than learning everything in isolation. Literature, history, science, nature, art, practical skills, and project-based learning naturally weave together.
As students grow, so does the depth and responsibility of their work. Younger students learn largely through play, stories, exploration, and creating. Older students move toward discussion, skill-building, leadership, and increasingly complex real-world projects.
Throughout the semester, students work on both individual projects and collaborative group efforts, learning how to ask questions, solve problems, create, communicate, and contribute to their community.
At the end of each semester, families gather for Student Exhibitions, where our children have the opportunity to proudly share the work, ideas, discoveries, and skills they have developed along the way.

Hands-On Learning
Subjects are explored through thematic units, projects, rich literature, and student-led collaboration that encourages curiosity and meaningful discovery.
Nature & Play
Outdoor learning is woven into each day through our outdoor space, mud kitchen, nature walks, observation, and exploration in the natural world.
Survival Skills & Outdoor Confidence
Throughout the year, students learn practical outdoor skills. These experiences build confidence, resilience, and respect for the world around them.
Spanish Immersion
Full immersion learning through songs, games, storytelling, and conversation.
The Bigs: Homesteading & Leadership Program
As students grow, their learning shifts toward real-world responsibility and skill development.
Our Bigs program introduces students to homesteading and practical life skills such as gardening, caring for chickens, understanding soil health, observing ecosystems, and learning the foundations of sustainable living. Students may also explore skills like beekeeping, food production, and stewardship of the land.
Leadership and communication are also central to this stage. Students practice discussion, debate, public speaking, and collaborative problem solving while developing confidence in expressing their ideas.
Entrepreneurship is woven into the experience as well. Through projects and mentorship from local business owners and community leaders, students begin exploring how ideas turn into meaningful work.
Student Market Projects
The final two weeks of each semester are dedicated to preparing for our Student Market, where students present, share, and sometimes sell what they have created with their families and the community.
Parent Onsite Lounge
Parents are welcome to remain onsite during Schoolhouse days and work from our dedicated parent lounge.
One-on-One Family Meetings
Before joining The Village Schoolhouse, families participate in a pre-registration meeting so we can get to know one another and ensure the program is a good fit. Throughout the year, we also meet with families to discuss each child’s growth — physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and academically.

Meet our People
Kayla Medellin
Founder, Wife and mamaKayla is a mother, entrepreneur, and visionary behind The Village Schoolhouse. Her heart for this school was born out of her own journey as a mom — longing for an environment where children are known deeply, challenged thoughtfully, and nurtured as whole people.
She believes education should cultivate curiosity, character, leadership, and a love of learning… not just check academic boxes.
The Village Schoolhouse was created to give families freedom, community, and an individualized approach that honors how each child is uniquely wired.
For Kayla, this isn’t just a school, it’s part of building the village we all need and creating what she couldn’t find for her own children and bringing this type of schooling to families all over the world.
Meghan spagnoli
Teacher, Co-Writer of the curriculum of life, wife and mamaA wife, mother of three, educator, gardener, and one of the incredible hearts helping shape The Village Schoolhouse.
Ms. Meghan holds multiple teaching recognitions and brings over a decade of experience in education. She began her career as a curriculum writer for the STEAM department at a nationally recognized children’s museum, where she developed hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences designed to spark curiosity and wonder in children.
Her work has always centered around one core belief: education should shape not only what children know, but who they become.
She is deeply passionate about immersive, relational learning - where rich literature, thoughtful discussion, nature, craftsmanship, creativity, and real-world application come together to cultivate confident, capable, and deeply curious children.
As a mother herself, her vision extends far beyond the classroom. She believes childhood should be slow, meaningful, connected, and filled with wonder.
Most days you can find her with her children, tending to her garden and dreaming up intentional learning experiences for families.
At The Village Schoolhouse, she is helping shape the foundation we are setting here. She is taking the vision Kayla had for the school and curriculum and helping bring it to life through The Curriculum of Life
andria Robinette
spanish teacher, wife and mamaAndria Robinette is an educator, wife, mother of four, and lifelong learner. Her love for Spanish began when her family moved to Mérida, Yucatán, as missionaries when she was nine years old. She grew up there from ages 9 to 18, attending both bilingual and all-Spanish-speaking schools, and still enjoys visiting Mérida to reconnect with childhood friends and a city that shaped much of who she is.
Andria graduated from Texas A&M University with a double major in Communication and Spanish. She spent seven years teaching Spanish, writing curriculum, mentoring students, and supporting other educators in Houston. She also has experience developing after-school technology curriculum for students from elementary age through young adulthood.
Andria believes all people are called to be lifelong learners..always growing, changing, and becoming. She loves building community in her home, church, gym, and new Magnolia community.
In her free time, she enjoys CrossFit, camping with her kids, being outside, spending time with family and church family, and gathering with the people she loves.
